Welcome to Be(IN) The Change

Our New Pathway to Change!

We look forward to collaborating with you to co-create a beautiful future for the faces yet to come.

From conversation to collaboration. From knowledge to action

What is Be(IN) The Change?

Be (IN) The Change is an invitation to participate.

We bring together Indigenous communities, tourism organizations, researchers, youth, artists, Knowledge Holders and community partners to create opportunities for meaningful collaboration across tourism, research and community access.

Our work is grounded in the belief that strong futures are not designed for communities—they are shaped with community.

Through relationship-building, community engagement, research, mentorship and partnership development, we create pathways for people to contribute their knowledge, develop their skills, share their perspectives and help shape the futures they want to see.

TOURISM • RESEARCH • COMMUNITY ACCESS

Tourism

Building tourism through relationship.

Tourism can create opportunities for cultural connection, learning, entrepreneurship, employment and community development—but the communities whose lands, cultures and stories shape these experiences must be part of determining what tourism becomes.

Be (IN) The Change works with Indigenous communities, tourism organizations, destinations, businesses and industry partners to explore approaches to tourism that are community-informed, culturally grounded and regenerative.

Our emerging work includes:

  • Indigenous and regenerative tourism development
  • Cultural integrity and responsible tourism
  • Youth engagement and leadership in tourism
  • Community-informed tourism planning
  • Indigenous entrepreneurship and workforce development
  • Experiential and land-based visitor experiences
  • Industry workshops and facilitated conversations
  • Partnership and relationship development
  • Community engagement and consultation support

Youth belong in today’s tourism conversations.

Young people are often described as the future of tourism. We believe they are also contributors to tourism right now.

A growing focus of Be (IN) The Change is creating pathways for youth to contribute ideas, develop skills, gain experience and participate meaningfully in conversations about tourism development in their communities.

Research

Research that is FOR community BY community.

Research has the potential to create meaningful change when the people most connected to the questions are also part of shaping the conversations, interpreting what is learned and determining what happens next.

Our research interests sit at the intersection of Indigenous tourism, youth leadership, regenerative tourism, community engagement, culture, language and community-defined futures.

We are particularly interested in collaborative approaches that create space for community knowledge and academic research to work alongside one another without treating one way of knowing as more valuable than another.

Our work and collaborations may include:

  • Community-based and participatory research
  • Indigenous youth leadership and engagement
  • Regenerative and Indigenous tourism
  • Coming Faces and future generations
  • Two-Eyed Seeing and multiple ways of knowing
  • Kitchen Table conversations and relational engagement
  • Community research partnerships
  • Knowledge mobilization
  • Community reports and accessible resources
  • Conference presentations and publications
  • Research-to-practice projects
  • Collaborative funding and grant opportunities

Knowledge should travel both ways.

We are committed to finding ways for knowledge created through collaboration to STAY in community in ways that are useful, accessible and meaningful—whether through workshops, resources, youth programming, community conversations, educational materials or new opportunities.

Community Access

Creating pathways for all who want to engage.

Opportunities to learn, participate, create and lead should not only be available to people who have access to universities, conferences, tourism organizations or professional networks.

Community Access is our commitment to creating ways for community to be part of the opportunities being built through Bead The Change.

This may include:

  •  Free or subsidized community workshops
  • Youth programming and mentorship
  • Opportunities for Indigenous artists and creatives
  • Elder and Knowledge Holder involvement
  • Language and cultural learning initiatives
  • Community conversations and Kitchen Tables
  • Calls for research participants
  • Youth-in-tourism experiences
  • Community events
  • Land-based learning
  • Accessible educational resources
  • Opportunities to participate in collaborative projects

Grants Create Access

One of the ways we hope to expand community access is through grant-funded programming and partnerships.

Rather than relying only on participant fees, we actively look for funding opportunities that can help remove financial barriers and bring programming into communities.

Grant-supported projects may help fund facilitator and Knowledge Holder honoraria, youth participation, artist fees, materials, food, transportation, space, accessibility needs, land-based activities and community resources.
